Next week here on The B.C. Blog, Sojourn Kids Director Jared Kennedy will share a family devotional series with you. His series is based on the “Creation Days” art exhibit by visual artist Sarah Hall (see the exhibit any time by visiting the second floor children’s wing of The 930 Art Center. Or view it online at sojournvisualarts.com).
As a prelude to the series, Sojourn Visual Arts Director Michael Winters shares this story:
Sarah Hall’s favorite memory of her own Sunday school experience was when she was taught the fruits of the spirit from Galations 5. She tells the story: “We all got these outrageous fruit costumes and learned a song and dance – had rehearsals and everything. It was such a huge event for me, and it really connected me to God’s word in a huge way. It made it special.”
So when we commissioned her to make a painting about Creation for permanent display in the kids area, her idea was to show kids re-enacting the creation story. We expected that she’d make one painting, but instead she showed up with seven – one for each day of creation.
