Pt. 4: Sojourn Elders Answer Your Questions About Our Multi-Campus Approach, And Our New Campus In St. Matthews

Brothers and sisters:

Thank you for continuing with us in this series of blog posts.  We hope that we have answered the biggest questions you’ve asked, and other questions along the way.  Now we’ll tackle a miscellany of questions that we have not previously discussed:

Where is the new location?  Will we own it? They currently meet in a school.  We will be moving to another location.  We’re considering a couple possibilities.  We will be renting space.

What will service times be, for the new location and for The 930?

The 930: 9 am, 11:15 am, 5 pm, 7 pm

St. Matthews: 10 am

We will start this new schedule the first week of July, and we will officially launch the Sojourn – St. Matthews campus on Sunday, August 2 (one week earlier than what we’d previously stated).

With more than one speaker preaching on the weekend, how will that affect the sermons…will everyone stick tightly to Daniel’s script, or will they adhere to the same outline but have some freedom in terms of personal style, sermon illustrations, etc. They will adhere to the same outline but have freedom in terms of personal style, sermon illustrations, etc.  This summer you will hear several teachers in our worship gatherings in addition to Pastor Daniel.  You’ve heard some of them before, such as Pastor Robert Cheong and Pastor Rob Plummer.  Others will be preaching for the first time at The 930.  This will give you an idea of where we’re headed, in terms of teaching teams.  We recognized that God uniquely gifts everyone whom He calls to preach His Word.  When anyone teaches at Sojourn, you can be sure that the message will be the same – the unadulterated Word of God, the cross of Christ, and the transformative community made possible by the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the redeemed.  But each teacher will bring his own personality and strengths to the table.

What do the elders think of the latest IX Marks journal, which is all about multi-site? We find it helpful.  We’ve read and conversed with several of the authors and ministries involved or cited in that journal.  As you can read in Gregg R. Allison’s article, we even hosted his Independent Study Course on multi-site at The 930, back in 2007.  This is something that we have studied and prayed about a great deal.

On Monday we will publish our own paper on a biblical theology of the multi-campus approach to doing church.  You can read it here on TravelBlog.  We feel that there are some very pragmatic, fiscally responsible, experiential and “results-oriented” reasons to become a multi-campus church.  But these reasons pale in comparison to the biblical reasoning. We would not adapt a multi-campus model if we did not feel that this was a model that God had sanctioned in His Word.

And again, we hope that all of you will attend our open meeting on the development of our St. Matthews campus.  We’ll hold this meeting in The 930 auditorium on Thursday, May 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.  Remain in prayer for this city, for our church, and for each of us.  We will remain in prayer for you as well, knowing that none of us are equal to the task God is calling us to, unless we follow the leading of His Spirit.
