Father’s Day and the Art of Crafting Memories, by Daniel Montgomery

Father’s Day! Mine was great, and I hope yours was, too. We had a photo booth set up in our gallery, for those of you who weren’t there, and we had long lines of fathers with kids of all ages. One of my favorite things to see were the fathers-to-be having their picture taken with their expecting wives. What a great memory that will be to look back on. What a great thing to share with your kids, to tell them that you were their father even while they were still in the womb, and that you looked forward to their arrival and celebrated as their father even while still waiting for them.

It’s a great thing to be able to make memories, to write paragraphs and chapters in our life-story. For me, it was a feast of hotwings and a two-hour nap with my kids between the morning and evening services. Maybe for you it was your first time attending a worship service with your father in a long time. Or maybe it was a special visit from your parents who live a ways away. Maybe it was your first Father’s Day or your first without your dad. Memories are important and it was a blessing to see so many being recorded by Michael Winters’ camera today. I can’t wait to get my picture in the mail.

Here are just a few memories from the day – let’s celebrate them and thank God for fathers and for being our perfect Father in heaven.
