Getting Ready For Sunday: How To Prepare For The 11/22/09 Sojourn Gathered

This Sunday we begin studying another major prophetic book: Daniel.  I asked Pastor Mike Cosper what he’s preparing for us.  He offered this preview:

“The book of Daniel is an amazing, apocalyptic book full of visions of war, bloodshed, madness, and the end of the world. But it’s not just a book about the grandiose and wonderful, it’s also a book about our personal lives and the hidden spiritual reality at work around us.  We’ll look at Daniel chapter two, where we see pictures of human kingdoms, God’s kingdom and a man who lived at the edge of two worlds.

Sounds cool, huh?  Without the Holy Spirit, we can easily see Daniel as a whacked out book full of whacked out dreams and situations.  Read chapter two (or even all of Daniel) this weekend and pray for the Spirit’s illumination in our minds during Sojourn Gathered.

This week we’ll sing hymns like “All Creatures Of Our God And King” and “Be Thou My Vision,” songs like “(Here I Am) Majesty,” and “Fall On The Rock,” and we’ll also sing Psalm 25.

Come ready to worship, ready to learn, ready to be sent back into the world on mission for the Kingdom of God.  Until Sunday, meditate on this response to our God’s call to worship, which we will hear Sunday (reading the underlined portions aloud together):

The LORD is gracious and compassionate,

slow to anger and rich in love.

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

and your dominion endures through all generations.

You are faithful to all your promises

and loving toward all that You have made.

The LORD upholds all those who fall

and lifts up all who are bowed down.

The eyes of all look to you

and you give them their food at the proper time.

The LORD is near to all who call on him in truth.

Let every creature praise his holy name forever and ever.

Adapted from Psalm 145
