Getting Ready For Sunday: How To Prepare For The First Day Of Advent 2009 At Sojourn Gathered

This Sunday at Sojourn Gathered we will enter into the first day of Advent, the season of expectation and longing for the coming of Christ.  Advent always begins four Sundays before Christmas.  During these next few Sundays you can expect us to sing plenty of Advent Songs, our CD of original Sojourn songs and traditional carols for Advent and Christmas.

Pastor Mike Cosper will teach from Daniel 5 this Sunday, on one of the most ominous stories in Scripture.  Even those with little knowledge of the Bible have probably heard the expression “the writing is on the wall.”  This expressions comes from Daniel 5.  King Belshazzar threw a wild party for thousands of guests.  This party was all about the celebration of things that cultures still celebrate today:

  • Sex
  • Money
  • Power
  • Religion.

During this idolatrous feast, “the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster wall …”  The King responded in terror, literally losing control of his legs.

Where does the story go from there and what does it mean for us?  Come this Sunday, ready to learn and eager to hear the voice of God.
