Getting Ready For Sunday: How To Prepare For The Jan. 10, 2010 Sojourn Gathered

east-communion1This past Sunday we kicked 2010 off here at Louisville’s Sojourn Community Church with Pastor Daniel’s first message in a series on the book of Proverbs.  His sermon, called “Work: Ants and Sluggards,” looked at what Proverbs says about work.  If you missed it, you can check out the audio at sojournchurch.com or subscribe to the podcast in iTunes.

This week Pastor Daniel will preach about Proverbs’ teaching on wealth.  This book is chock-full of God’s wisdom regarding our finances.  This is a real “rubber meets the road” topic.  Debt — and abundance — often lead to misery, depression, greed and warfare.  In fact some studies have said that financial issues are the leading factor in divorce.

I’m sure we’ll benefit greatly from this sermon, and from our own study of the book of Proverbs.  And of course next week’s study in the free Sojourn monthly devotional will help us dig deeper — in just a few minutes each day — into the biblical view of wealth.  If you don’t take home the printed devotional on Sundays, remember that you can view each day’s devotional (five days per week) at devo.sojournchurch.com.

If you have our Before The Throne album, you can sing along to “My Maker And My King” and “All I Have Is Yours” in preparation for this Sunday (listen for free to “My Maker And My King” at the Before The Throne link above, and hear “All I Have Is Yours” at the Sojourn Music Myspace page).  And during the evening services at The 930, we’ll sing “We Are Changed” from Over The Grave: The Hymns of Isaac Watts, Volume One (preview it in iTunes here).  All other services will sing “Absent From Flesh” which the band hasn’t recorded yet.  You can practice along to this live version, “fan-cam’ed” at last year’s Advance conference in North Carolina:

Until Sunday, reflect on this Call To Worship, which we’ll hear together (reading the underlined portions) during Sojourn Gathered:

Don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.

He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.

-James 1:16-18
