Sojourn On The City – Our New Online Community

If you’re at all familiar with Sojourn Community Church you know we have one driving vision: to see the gospel transform everything — ourselves as individuals, our church, our city and the world.  We believe that God is calling us as a community of believers to be an active part in this ministry of gospel transformation.

We’re always looking for ways to strengthen our community. From early in our existence, this has included online tools.  Many Sojourners have formed friendships through our old message board, and have used the internet to sign up for everything from Membership Class to baptism, premarital counseling, retreats and service opportunities.

TheCity_horz_colorREVISED_lightTo make all these things work better for you, we’re using an online tool known as The City. Since its inception, The City has made it easier for churches to connect newcomers, build deeper community, equip leaders and unleash people to serve and make a lasting impact on their world with the Gospel.

What’s different?  You’ll be able to post and follow discussions for on the “whole church” board as well as campus-specific boards.  Each community group will have their own area as well.  And there are places for prayer requests, need-based requests and, in the future, other kinds of groups.

Just like social media sites (such as Facebook) you’ll have a profile from which you can post status updates.  It’s a snap to link updates on The City to Twitter, and from there, to Facebook.  Or, just leave it blank — it’s up to you.  You can easily customize The City to get email updates when people respond to you, or to turn the email updates off.  If you opt to receive email updates, you can also respond on The City directly from your email, without even having to log on The City.

Trust me — this is one of the coolest social media tools I’ve ever seen.  The features are simple and the pages are uncluttered.  This is a big step up from what we had before.

Keep looking for more information about Sojourn on The City. In fact, Sojourn Office Manager Audra Todd will begin a new series right here in TravelBlog called “Audra On The City.”  This column will give you insights into how to get plugged in and start using The City like an old hand.  We are excited about this way to help our community better communicate with one another.

How do we register for it?

You can also find this link on the back of this Sunday’s sermon bulletin (the big ad on the back), by clicking the “The City” banner ad on the sojournchurch.com home page, or on the link in the final paragraph of this post.

We’ll link to the kiosk in each of Audra’s posts this week.

Everyone keep in mind that, although this blog is open to everyone on the internet, Sojourn is only accepting registrations to The City from Sojourn members and those who attend Sojourn Gathered. This is because The City is meant to be used for internal church communication.
