Yes. Yes, he is. Join Metropolitan Opera tenor Philip Webb on February 9 at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for a concert of great arias and a conversation with President Mohler entitled
“Southern Goes to the Met: An Evening with Philip Webb.”
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Chapel, 2825 Lexington Road. Doors open at 7 p.m. Students and seniors, $5, general admission, $10.
- Like opera? Then this is good news for you, huh?
- Never really think about opera? Then think about it. Broaden your horizons. This could be fun.
- Don’t like opera? Well, maybe you like SBTS President Mohler though. He’ll make things interesting. And who knows — you might find that you really enjoy this. It’s good to expand your musical horizons.
Here is Dr. Mohler himself, talking about the event:
“Opera is fertile ground for premium worldview analysis. We all love a compelling story, and opera is one of Western civilization’s most powerful ways of telling a story. Opera combines narrative with some of the most beautiful and moving music ever heard. An understanding of opera is important, not only for cultural enrichment and aesthetic appreciation, but for an understanding of music in Western culture. Come hear a premier operatic artist introduce you to the world of opera. You owe it to yourself to take advantage of an unprecedented opportunity.”
See? If I were as smart as Dr. Mohler, that’s what I would have originally said (in place of “Broaden your horizons. This could be fun).” Be there.
Also, look at this photo. Dude, take away the costume and Philip Webb totally looks like a Sojourner. Or a wrestler:
